Police Visit Pembury Primary School
Kent

Neighbourhood officers went back to school in February to give local children a chance to find out more about how the police work – and get around.

Members of the Tunbridge Wells Neighbourhood Policing Team were at Pembury Primary School to take part in a special activity day themed around the topic, ‘How we travel’. Pupils were able to see various vehicles: a general-purpose patrol vehicle, a traffic car, a police 4x4 and the mobile police station. They were also given the chance to use some of the equipment in the vehicles – the blue lights and sirens were particularly popular!

Two-wheeled transport was not forgotten as PCSO Nick Brown brought along his police bicycle, which gave him the chance to talk to pupils about bike security and safe cycling. PC Martin Pemble showed pupils a CBRN (Chemical Biological Radiological Nuclear) suit and explained about the type of incidents for which the suit might be used. But perhaps the biggest attractions of the day were two police dogs that the pupils – and staff – made a great fuss of.

PCSO Nick Brown said: ‘The children were really enthusiastic and thoroughly enjoyed the day despite the weather, which was freezing cold with sleet showers! They all took lots of notes and we were kept busy answering their many questions. All in all, it was a great success and an event that I hope the children will remember for some time.’
