The Chairman and Manager welcome Andy Constable to the club
The Chairman seems pleased!

Andy Constable's much anticipated debut for the Wells ended in defeat against Herne Bay in the Kent League Cup. The striker, who has joined from Whitstable Town, made a good impression, but sadly couldn't round off his debut with a goal.

The match itself was a very even affair, with Wells shading the first half and Herne Bay coming back strongly, particuarly towards the end of the second half.
Tunbridge Wells broke the deadlock midway through the first half when Dave Forster's shot caught the Herne Bay keeper flat footed and ended up in the net on 28 minutes. This was the reward that the Wells' first half performance deserved. The team were clearly bouyed by the arrival of Constable and they always looked threatening when they were going forward. The goal lead to recriminations in the Herne Bay defence and looked as though it would cause the flood gates to open, but Bay managed to hold on until half time.

The second half started much as the first ended, with Wells in the acsendancy. This was all to change as the half wore on, with Herne Bay increasingly coming into the game. Despite this change in fortunes, Andy Constable had the chance to make himself an instant hero, when he broke through with only the keeper to beat, sadly for him he managed to put his shot just wide of the post.

This change in fortunes was evident when Bay finally got their equaliser mid way through the half, and the turn around was complete when the second goal went in shortly afterwards. Herne Bay looked comfortable but the drama wasn't over as Wells managed to put the ball in the Herne Bay net right at the death, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Overall a disappointing day for Tunbridge Wells, but a good performance which the team should be able to build on.
