Gary Stevens' takeover of Tunbridge Wells FC looks certain
Kent

A major block on former England footballer Gary Stevens’ long running takeover ambitions for
Tunbridge Wells FC has finally been overcome.

Culverden Stadium, where the club plays, is owned by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, and an argument over alleged dilapidations which were linked to the clubs current lease on the ground has been settled.
This means that Stevens is able to take over the running of the club in the build up to taking out an extended lease on Culverden Stadium with the council. Chairman Nigel Bourne commented. “Gary Stevens will be issued with a licence to run the football club as it is now and in the time building up to when he has done his deal for the extended lease on the club. He will be able to get the club ready and running the way he wants it run, which is pretty much what I have been doing, trying to work in co-operation with him.” This news gives Tunbridge Wells supporters hope of success both on and off the field. Gary Sevens has been involved with the club for a number of years and has made no secret of his desire to put Tunbridge Wells FC on the map.

Mr Bourne emphasised this when he said, “I think it is the future way forward for the club, because somebody like Gary Stevens has got the name and reputation, he’s got the contacts, he’s got the backers. Hhe's got a number of backers lined up who can do this work financially, which we can’t do ourselves, because we are just mere mortals from Tunbridge Wells. He’s got a celebrity name, people want to assist him where they don’t really want to assist us.”

Only time will tell whether this really is the way forward for the club, but there is no doubt that life at Tunbridge Wells FC will be interesting!
