Greg Clark MP to present Post Office petitions at Westminster
Kent

Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clark has collected petitions from St John’s and Bidborough Post Offices, signed by over 2,500 local people. These will now be presented by Mr Clark in the House of Commons to Post Office Minister Pat McFadden.

Receiving the petitions, Greg Clark commented on the strength of local feeling against the planned closures:

"Local people and businesses in both Bidborough and St John’s have come together in an attempt to overturn these damaging plans to close their Post Offices. I am delighted to receive these petitions and to support the tremendous number of local people who have signed them. "

"I will now be presenting these petitions in Parliament to the Minister responsible for these damaging closure plans – he must take note of such an overwhelming expression of public feeling."

"Both the Minister and Post Office managers must sit and listen to the strongly held views of local people.”

Detailing the next steps in the campaign against the closures of St John’s, Bidborough, Langton Green and Hawkhurst Post Offices, Greg Clark stated:

"In the Tunbridge Wells area, St John’s, Bidborough, Langton Green and Hawkhurst Post Offices are all threatened with closure. I will be standing shoulder to shoulder with local people as we campaign to overturn these ill thought through plans."

"Following the presentation of the petition, I will be calling for a full debate in the House of Commons on the local Post Office closure plans. I will also be meeting Post Office Directors in December to press the case firmly for retention of each of our local Post Offices."

"In the meantime, may I urge everyone to write to the Post Office before the consultation finishes on 12th November to support their local Post Offices.”

The Post Office consultation ends on 12th November. Views should be expressed to:
