Greg Clark MP takes Trinity theatre funding fight to arts council
Kent

Tunbridge Wells MP Greg Clark took Trinity Theatre’s fight for funding to the Arts Council in a meeting in Westminster today. A cut of £77,000 to Trinity Theatre is proposed in current Arts Council funding plans for the region.

Following the meeting, Mr Clark commented:

“I met with Arts Council Director Felicity Harvest and put forward the strongly held views of the many constituents who have written to me in an effort to secure long term funding for Trinity Theatre.

“I am especially concerned that a decision to cut Trinity’s entire Arts Council grant could be made just 10 weeks before the beginning of the year to which it relates.

“Although any cut in funding would be a huge blow to Trinity, I told Felicity Harvest that it is essential that the Arts Council does not simply pull the rug away but supports Trinity with transitional funding and works with the charity to improve its ability to secure longer term funding.

“I will continue to fight for funding, but Trinity must also help itself if it is to secure its long term future.

"We have a vibrant community and a wonderful venue. Trinity must review its marketing and artistic programme to attract wider audiences, and to address its financial viability.

“There is still massive potential to secure Trinity’s future as one the premier arts venues in the South East."

“With over 90,000 people a year visiting Trinity, the centre plays a vital role in the community and cultural life of Tunbridge Wells.

“It is essential that these people and many more are able to enjoy a strong artistic programme at Trinity for years to come
