A short story in a new book by local author Cuger Brant sees Tunbridge Wells (and the rest of the country) ravaged by a human strain of the bird flu virus.
This is not the first time that the author has laid waste to Tunbridge Wells, with a 'dirty bomb' going of in the town in his previous book, A Very Dirty Business.
By setting many of his stories in the town he knows so well, Cuger believes that an added level of realism is achieved. |

The town is featured in the new book, Something Wicked This Way Comes as the source of the deadly outbreak of the H5N1 type flu bug. Cuger himself says he uses Tunbridge Wells for two main reasons.
Firstly he knows the town well having lived here for many years and secondly the town is typical of so many others around England that it is the perfect setting, 'I Chose Tunbridge Wells, because it represents any town in England – It could be anywhere really.' |

When I asked him about his penchant for laying waste to his home town, Cuger laughed and said, “Writing a book is therapeutic for me, and yes I enjoyed destroying Tunbridge Wells!” |
