Today (Tuesday 15th July) saw the launch of Heritage Open days 2008 in Tunbridge Wells.
The scheme offers both local people and visitors to the town the chance to explore 38 buildings, enjoy 7 guided walks and hear an illustrated talk on Georgian Tunbridge Wells.
All of the events occur over the weekend of Thursday 11th - Sunday 14th September 2008.
This is a Europe wide scheme which sees properties all over the continent open over the weekend
The event is organised by The Tunbridge Wells Civic Society and the Southborough Society and receives support from a number of other local organisations such as Tunbridge Wells Borough Council.
One of the unique features of the scheme is the kinds of buildings which are opened for the event. Often the buildings do not normally open to the public, for instance the archive room at Eridge Park and part of the original Tunbridge Wells electricity generating station.
Another great thing about the scheme is the fact that entry to all of the buildings and events are completly free all weekend.
For local people this is a great opportunity to visit some familiar places and for visitors to the town it is a fantastic way to see the parts of Tunbridge Wells that are normally hidden from the world.
