Two new bike stands have been officialy opened in Tunbridge Wells. The bike stands are identical to those outside the town hall.

The stands were made by a craftsman in the town of Wiesbaden in Germany which is twinned with Tunbridge Wells, to celebrate the Tour de France coming through the town in 2007.

The stands are situated on the corner of Grosvenor Road and Monson Road in the town centre.

Michael Holman, Chairman of the Tunbridge Wells Twinning and Friendship Association said, 'The bikes were made by a man called Bernd Brusberg from our twin town Wiesbaden. Bernd's father was instrumental in setting up the link between Tunbridge Wells and Weisbaden in the 1960s. As the Tour de France came through the town in July 2007 we thought it would great to have another couple of stands.'

The stands were officially opened by the mayor of Tunbridge Wells Councillor Barbara Cobbold, and the local MP Greg Clark was also in attendance.

Greg Clark MP was full of praise for the stands, 'I think they are a brilliant design, they look fun, and they remind people that you can park your cycles in the centre of Tunbridge Wells. Hopefully they may encourage more people to use bikes rather than cars, and I think they are a positive addition to the town centre.'

The stands certainly provide a striking sight in the town centre.
