Tunbridge Wells borough council have erected a plaque to commerate Robert Baden-Powell

Tunbridge Wells has a new heritage plaque to Commemorate Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts who spent two years as a pupil at Rose Hill school in the town.

The plaque has been placed on the front of one of the flats in Vale Towers, the building which is now on the former school site.
David Constantine who is the current owner of the flat said, "I had the privelage of being at Rose Hill school, and I am very happy to have this plaque here."

The plaque will become part of the town's heritage trail, and it is hoped will attract visitors with an interest in the Scouting movement to the town.
Councillor David Elliot commenting on the importance of bringing tourists to Tunbridge Wells said, "Tourism is a very important economic activity in Tunbridge Wells, it brings people to the town and is a very important part of the local economy."

The plaque lets people know that Robert Baden-Powell was once a resident of Tunbridge Wells, and the local Scouting movement is understandably proud to have the connection publicised.

Councillor Colin Bothwell who is also a member of the executive commitee of the Tunbridge Wells Scouts was clearly thrilled to have Robert Baden-Powell's link to Tunbridge Wells marked with the plaque. He said, "To have been involved with the Scouting movements centenary celebrations, and now to see this plaque is the icing on the cake for a great year for Scouting."
