The old bandstand in Calverley Grounds, a very popular landmark that has been standing for many years and brought pleasure to thousands with the music that was played there, is continuing to cause an uproar to residents and officials in Tunbridge Wells. |
The petition against the demolition of this famous focal point has been growing in force as nearly 1, 000 signatures have been added to the growing numbers of people who are outraged at the proposition to have this removed from the beautiful, peaceful, and relaxing grounds of the park.

All ages both young and old agree that this should remain as a part of the heritage of the town of Tunbridge Wells and have it completely restored. Also many residents and those who work in the local shops and businesses, coupled with the thousands of tourists who come to the grounds finding peace and relaxation, have expressed their own angry opinion and views about the possible loss of this monument to times long gone!

Many desperately want it restored to its original beauty and functioning again, others despite the angry viewpoints of the growing numbers against its removal don’t seem to want to spend the money on its refurbishment, or see any reason to continue to spend money on the annual costs to maintain it.
With the ever-growing amount of signatures being added daily to the petition, there seems some hope that those who want to save the bandstand may have their wish come true. |

The Tunbridge Wells Borough Council have given a 21 day opportunity for everyone to submit their views before the planning committee decides it’s fate.
This bandstand is one of the most popular landmarks in the town…and a valuable piece of the history of Tunbridge Wells.
