Christms Card and christmas tree recycling

Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is encouraging local people to support the national recycling campaign being run by the Woodland Trust and Recycle Now to recycle 100 million cards.

The collection target of 100 million cards will enable 24,000 trees to be planted and save 2,600 tonnes of CO2 equivalent greenhouse gases - the same as taking over 800 cars off the road for a year.
The campaign will not only help the Woodland Trust plant more trees but will also stop recyclable waste needlessly ending up being sent into landfill and help the environment.

Special collection bins will be available throughout January at WHSmith stores, Tesco stores (including selected Express), TK Maxx stores and all M&S stores including selected M&S Simply Food stores. Sainsburys in Tunbridge Wells also has a collection point for cards.
All the cards collected during the campaign are taken to paper mills where they are recycled into brand new paper products, with the money raised helping the Woodland Trust plant thousands of new trees throughout the UK.

Portfolio Holder for Environment and Street Scene, Cllr Paul Barrington- King, added: ‘We’re proud to support this campaign and would urge our residents to use the bins in the participating shops to recycle their cards.’

In addition to the card recycling Tunbridge Wells Borough Council would like to remind all residents on the Brown Bin scheme that their real Christmas tree can be recycled by leaving it in or next to their brown bin the next time it is due to be collected.
