Tuesday 27 May Book launch by Denise Barnes, a local estate agent for 17 years who sold her business 3 years ago to concentrate on her new career as a writer. Denise will introduce her recently published book, “From Bad to Wurst: Bavarian Adventures of a Veggie Cook”, a light-hearted look at German cuisine and her adventures at a Bavarian health clinic. Copies of the book will be available and Denise will also bring along some of her German recipes. This promises to be a very entertaining evening – don’t miss it!

16 May – 1 June Royal Tunbridge Wells International Music Festival

Sunday 1 June Concert at Kloster Eberbach, near Wiesbaden, by the orchestra and choir of Wiesbaden’s Music Academy who will be joined by three young musicians from Tunbridge Wells to play “The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace” by English composer Karl Jenkins. TWTFA has been instrumental in finding the 3 local musicians and will be supporting their trip to Wiesbaden. If any members would be interested to travel to Wiesbaden over the long weekend of 29 May to 2 June and attend this concert, please contact Michael Holman, 01892 523013.

8 -13 July Return visit from the girls’ team of Wiesbaden Hockey Club to play various matches here in Kent, including a team from Tunbridge Wells Girls’ Grammar School on Wednesday 9 July and a series of round robin matches at Tonbridge School on Saturday 12 July (when it is hoped the Mayor will be in attendance). 7 – 11 August We are hoping a small group of members will go to Wiesbaden to visit this year’s Wine Festival (as in 2005). The group would fly to Frankfurt and would stay at the Hotel Oranien (details and cost yet to be finalised). Wiesbaden and the surrounding area are beautiful in summer, and the chance to sample the delicious local wines should not be missed! If you would be interested, please contact us by 30 April.

National Trust property and the people who have lived there over the centuries by Heather Woodward, a former teacher at TWGGS and now a much sought-after speaker for the National Trust.
