Suspicious Device on ATMs
Kent

Police continue to warn people to check ATMs very carefully before they withdraw cash or make other transactions.

The latest warning comes after two suspicious incidents at cash machines at Barclays Banks in Paddock Wood and Tonbridge.  On Thursday 8 October about 7.30pm a man used the machine in Paddock Wood.  The machine retained his card showing an out of order message.  When he went to the bank the following day he discovered his card had not been retained and several transactions had appeared on the card overnight.

Police advise caution when using ATMs

On Friday 9 October about 7am a man discovered a camera on the machine at Barclays, High Street, Tonbridge.  He did not use the machine and his card was not compromised.  The man reported seeing a man and a woman, of Asian appearance, acting suspiciously in front of the machine before he used it.

Police are investigating  both incidents.

Det Sgt Dave Liffen, said: ‘Because we have seen a number of suspicious incidents like this in recent weeks the neighbourhood policing teams are monitoring cash machines where possible.

In the meantime customers should take great care and check that there is nothing untoward before using the machine.  Check around the insert slot to make sure nothing has been stuck to the machine and if you have any concerns don’t use it and report it to police.  If convenient use a machine inside a bank or get cash back when shopping.’
