All across Kent trains have come to a halt, thousands of commuters have been waiting for hours for trains to arrive, in a hope that the track will be cleared and take them to work, but their main anxiety is the hope that a train will be there at the station to get them home again, many have been left stranded along the railway line where the train just cannot go any further have had to spend a very uncomfortable night sleeping in the train!
|
For the hundreds of commuters waiting at stations in Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and Sevenoaks, their wait became one of frustration, cold and eventually anger, many had been waiting for hours for their train to arrive to take them not only to London but to their workplace, the complete picture was one of utter despair as the awaited expectation of the train didn't arrive, many decided that the waiting was just too much and went home to lose their day's work, and many their day's pay!
Hundreds of schools across the region have been closed much to the great pleasure of the children who have taken this opportunity of having a good depth of snow to get the sled's out and fly down the nearest hill as fast as they can.
Gatwick airport has been closed for the day as runway's have been covered in inches of snow, despite the Airport Authority having the means to clear the snow, the runway's have been covered in ice, every indication is that the airport will be able to resume normal operations very soon. |

Over 100 lorries become stranded by the Dartford crossing causing chaos to the area, some being unable to make any headway due to the icy roads. The M25 has become a nightmare for hundreds of motorists, as they have had to either stay in their vehicles or leave them to find near-by accomodation until the snow has been cleared. |
|
The roads have become chaotic with traffic coming to a standstill, as many hundreds of trucks are having to rest up in the motorway layby's while the roads are cleared, although this is major problem for the Highway's Commision everything is being done to resolve the dangerous conditions that face every vehicle using the roads.
Kent Police have been called to many accidents, where vehicles have collided and caused problems blocking roads, in other situations they have assisted motorists to get their vehicles out of danger by moving them from dangerous positions after an accident. |
The roads due to the overnight freezing conditions are creating a far greater danger to all vehicles like "Black Ice" this although unseen is a very dangerous threat to all motorists as they find no grip for their tyres and they are very likely to slide across the road especially towards oncoming traffic, which could culminate in a very dangerous and serious accident.
Kent Police warn that if you do decide to travel to listen to the weather broadcasts on the radio, if uncertain then they advise all those that are thinking of using their cars and vans that they pospone their trip unless completely neccessary!

Kent Police Weather Warning
With the sudden cold spell and snow falls hitting many areas in the county of Kent, which have become enveloped in snow with roads turning from slush to ice within hours, Kent Police are urging motorists to listen to traffic updates on local broadcasts before setting out on their journey as officers have received a number of calls relating to delays in many parts of Kent. A number of reports have been made regarding vehicles becoming stuck in the snow and significant traffic delays due to the weather conditions.
Many of the major breakdown services have already received many hundreds of calls for assistance as motorists have broken down or had an accident on snow covered and icy roads.
Kent County Council and The Highways Agency are sending resources to many areas to help clear the snow and make certain that the roads are fully gritted, but until that time significant delays are to be expected.
Kent Police works with partner agencies to keep people safe. Motorists can reduce the risk of problems by keeping up-to-date with the weather forecast and road conditions before setting off on their journeys. |

The Advice From Kent Police is:
Check the weather forecast and road conditions for your journey and destination before you travel
Make sure you have full visibility before driving, taking time to de-mist and de-ice all windows and lights on the vehicle
Poor weather conditions mean it can be harder for drivers to see, so use your lights
When the roads are wet and icy it can take twice as long to stop your vehicle, so slow down
In poor visibility be extra alert for hazards
Carry warm waterproof clothing, food, water and a torch in your vehicle in case weather conditions mean you have to stop
Make sure you have plenty of fuel for your journey before you set off
Pedestrians and cyclists, be vigilant and make sure you can be seen however you are travelling - this includes using lights and wearing high visibility clothing
