Tonbridge Police Scheme Assists Car Owners

With the ever increasing theft of vehicle number plates over the years from all across the country, a new scheme was introduced by the local Tonbridge and Kent Police  Forces this week, at the Angel centre in the town.

The scheme was in operation to provide and assist car drivers from having their number plates stolen, and used for illegal means such as; avoiding toll charges, petrol theft, congestion charge evasion, and burglaries.

As vehicle drivers waited for police and council officials to change their number plates, using the new safety type screws, it gave them an excellent opportunity to chat with the drivers about crime prevention in the area, and get their thoughts and opinions, on how measures could be taken to improve their home and vehicle security.

The scheme proved a success as nearly 100 motorists took advantage to have these special anti tamper-proof screws fitted to their car number plates, there-by securing them from illegal theft.

The message that the police always give out to motorists, is never to leave any valuables in your car, and never leave personal possessions where they can be seen by the unscrupulous thief, who may well break the windows to steal the contents.

The old adage that all the police forces across the country used in the 60's and 70's, which reinforced the seriousness of crime prevention in those days, is even more important for us all today, and for us to remember...
