Visiting Sevenoaks
Sevenoaks is a town situated in the west of Kent, England. It gives its name to the Sevenoaks District, of which it is the principal town, and lies 21.5 miles (34.6 km) southeast of the centre of London.
The presence of Knole House, a large mansion, led to the earlier settlement becoming a village; in the 13th century a market was established here.
Sevenoaks School, one of Britain’s leading independent schools, and is the oldest secular school in England. Sir William Sevenoke, a wealthy London merchant founded it, in 1432.
Two roads, London Road & the High Street divide the centre of town, which meet at the southern end of town at the HSBC Bank. The town has a very good theatre called the Stag. The town contains many fine shops and businesses and is serviced by Sevenoaks District Council, where you will find the staff very friendly and helpful. At the southern end is St Nicholas Church, which is a very fine building. |
