Careless calls cost lives

Lives across the county are being put at risk every day, because the 999 service is being abused, Kent Police has warned.

Nuisance calls made to 999 on a weekly basis include requests for taxis, chemist opening times and reports of lost dogs.

Police release images of van used in Maidstone robbery

Police have released images of a van used in the robbery at the Tesco Express store in Hermitage Lane, Maidstone, this morning, Friday, 10 July.

 

The white Ford Transit Connect van, which has a distinctive roof rack, was found nearby and is now undergoing a detailed forensic examination by police.

Director of lettings firm in Maidstone charged with 20 counts of fraud

The director of a lettings firm in Maidstone has been charged with 20 counts of fraud by abuse of position.

 

Mr Nirver Panesar (38) of Woodlands Road Gillingham, and director of Riverside lettings in Maidstone was yesterday charged with 20 counts of fraud.

 

He has been bailed until a plea and directions hearing at Maidstone Magistrates Court on 9 July.

Man has been found guilty
A man has been found guilty today (Thursday 14 May) of attempted murder following a two week trial at Maidstone Crown Court.

The jury of five men and seven women took just under five hours to return a guilty verdict.

Five men sentenced to a total of 54 years for drug smuggling
Five men have been sentenced to a total of 54 years in prison today for their part in a complex conspiracy to import and supply cocaine. The men smuggled large quantities of highly pure cocaine from France onto the Kent coastline using high speed inflatable boats. They committed their crimes between September 2007 and March 2008.

NEIGHBOURHOOD policing has helped to reduce crime across the county.

Since 2005/2006, before neighbourhood policing was launched, Kent Police performance has improved in several areas.

 

The overall number of recorded crimes has reduced by 26,063 crimes, a fall of 17.7 per cent.

Crime falls across county
Kent has seen a reduction in recorded crime according to the latest quarterly figures published by the Home Office.

The period October to December 2008 compared to the same period in 2007 showed all recorded crime in Kent and Medway dropped by 5.5 per cent to 29,122 crimes. At the same time, the detection rate has risen by 5.3 per cent.

Kent clampdown on mobilephone car chat
It seems that even though tougher penalties have been introduced on drivers using their mobiles whilst driving, the message isn’t quite sinking in. Nearly 70 people in Kent alone have been stopped since the new enforcements were introduced one week ago on February 27th. The fines have risen to £60 and three penalty points are added to the driver’s license. People are over-optimistic about their driving ability but we seem to have learnt that drink driving is dangerous. Why aren’t we listening now?
