Oradour-sur-Glane

Oradour-sur-Glane was to suffer the full force of Nazi retaliation and pay the ultimate price, the complete destruction of the village and the horrific killing of nearly all the inhabitants (only a few were lucky enough to escape.)

The sacking of Oradour-sur-Glane and the massacre of it's inhabitants disgust the conscience which stays terrified.
The French language does not have a word strong enough to qualify that act; but the one who did it has committed a crime, even against his own country.....

Ordour-sur-Glane today a memorial for us to remember.

Ordour-sur-Glane is today a memorial to the 642 people that were massacred.

This inconceivable evil act was carried out by the 2nd S.S. Panzer Division "Das Reich" on that most brutal barbaric day of Saturday June10th 1944.

All the people in the village were rounded up and then separated, men in one group, and the women and children in another, a total of 642 innocent people of France.

The men folk and boys numbering around 200 were herded into barns, others were taken to the top of the village and lined up, all waited in fear and with great uncertainty as to what was about to happen.

The women, children and babies, a total of 450 in all were herded down the narrow street into the church. There the S.S. crammed them in, the women shielding their children and babies in their mothers protective arms.

When Major Otto Dickmann was satisfied that all was complete, he gave the order to Captain Khan to commence the slaughter. The Captain raised his pistol into the air, and fired a single shot that echoed around the village, that was the signal to all the S.S. troops waiting to start the killing of the innocent people of Oradour-Sur-Glane.
