He told us his tale of how he got on to the ferry which was not guarded, unlike the train containing the heavy water. He was stopped and questioned but luckily not searched, he said that he was off to visit his mother. He told us his tale within sight of the sister ferry, tied up in the position we saw depicted in the 1965 Film “The Heroes of Telemark” The ferry looked ready to receive the next train. I was able to walk on to it ignoring the keep out signs and reached the stairs down to the lower decks shown on the film. |

We left here and went south along side the fjord pausing at the spot the ferry sank. At Ulfoss we boarded a ferry to continue down to Skien, on the ferry were some English people staying with their sister in-law who was Norwegian. It turned out they came from Crawley and after hearing why I was there, their sister in law wanted to take my photo and shake my hand. The English guy was going to visit Dormansland church to see dads name on the war memorial.
This was the run down part of the trip, time to relax, think quietly and enjoy Norway. I spent the last night in Brian's home in Ejve, he's driving me back to Kritstiansand for the morning train trip, a last visit to the grave and up at 6 am for a Saturday morning flight. At the airport I managed to separately lose my wallet and camera, but such is the nature of the Norwegian people the wallet was returned before I knew I had lost it. And I was given the camera back after the finder checked the pictures inside.
